MODULE 10 OF 10

10. How do I research a project and decide my next step?

2–3 minute lesson · Fictional practice · New York / U.S. · Reviewed October 26, 2026

What is it?

Separate a working network, a business, a token, and an investment claim. Check original documents, actual use, fees, token supply, control, security history, and what rights a holder receives. A partnership announcement does not prove adoption, and an audit does not guarantee safety. 'Do nothing yet' is a valid conclusion. Long-term self-custody also needs recovery planning; frequent transactions need cost and exposure limits.

Why care?

To reach a reasoned decision without chasing a forecast.

When would I use it?

When news or a persuasive presentation makes you want to act.

Worked example

A fictional headline claims a project will tokenize property. Ask whether a legal ownership interest exists, who holds the property, what records apply, and whether holders can redeem. A token label alone does not answer those questions.

How to practice

Write the claim, primary evidence, date, remaining questions, and what would change your view. Choose a next learning step before a financial action.

The result to aim for

You have a documented reason to proceed, pause, or decline—not a promised profit.

One useful step now: Digital finance is changing; learning the checks now helps you evaluate later offers.

Final Knowledge Check

Use this optional self-check to review what you understand. It does not award an account achievement or certify financial competence.

1. A project has a useful payment app. What else must you check before treating its token as an investment?
2. You live in New York and a tutorial says an exchange serves the U.S. What is your next step?
3. Your phone wallet lets you control recovery and signing. Which description can be correct?
4. A hardware device is lost but you planned recovery correctly. What determines your next action?
5. A deposit requires a memo, but your draft transfer has none. What should you do?
6. A website shows a large profit but demands another crypto payment to release it. What does that tell you?
7. Fictional platform costs are $2 and a later network fee is $3. What is the combined cost before price changes?
8. You exchanged one crypto asset for another without withdrawing dollars. What should your record say?
9. Fictional debt is $500 and collateral falls from $1,000 to $625. Ignoring interest and fees, what happens to LTV?
10. After the lessons you still cannot explain a product's recovery or legal rights. What is a valid outcome?
